'We feel good about 2024 going into '25,' Royal Caribbean's Michael Bayley said about China cruise bookings
Royal Caribbean International resumes cruising from mainland China this month, and CEO Michael Bayley called booking volume and rate 'significantly higher than in 2019.'

Spectrum of the Seas is back sailing from Shanghai and Quantum-class sister Ovation of the Seas will be joining in Tianjin next year.

'The fact we've already deployed a second ship into the China market gives an indication of how well we're doing,' Bayley told analysts during Royal Caribbean Group's first quarter earnings call.

'We feel good about 2024 going into '25,' and onboard spending is 'looking really positive,' he said.

More direct bookings and itinerary content

Pre-pandemic, the company invested to grow direct sales and accelerated that effort with travel resuming, which has paid off, Bayley said, since many China cruise retailers dropped out during COVID.

Another boost was the reopening of Korea, enabling better itinerary content for China-based ships.
